NECSTouR, together with its 41 regional authorities addressing sustainable and competitive tourism in Europe, are working since 2018 on the Better Places to Live, Better Places to visit Barcelona Declaration, which goal is to better balance approach between the triangle: tourism-culture-resident: by addressing 1) smart governance 2) resident as ambassador 3) holistic marketing 4) balance place people and business and 5) connect people to people, where new technologies are presented as key enablers for the successful implementation of these principles.
The legacy of the Barcelona Declaration is very visible in some of NECSTouR’s members strategies, as is the case of Catalonia.
The purpose of the tourism authorities in Catalonia is precisely “to contribute to the wellbeing of the community”.
Technologies such as the metavers, the catvers and blockchain are indispensable players of this paradigm change.
