VisitMalta launches Marija, the first Maltese virtual citizen

The destination Malta intends to get ever closer to the concept of the digital experience of the tourist and it does so with Marija, an artificial intelligence tool born from an idea of VisitMalta, the agency for the promotion of tourism on the Maltese archipelago.

Presented on the occasion of a conference organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Consumer Protection on the Digital Tourism Roadmap 2030, Marija is part of a strategic plan called Recovery, Rethink, Revitalize and makes it possible to create a new immersive experience that will allow everyone to access a wealth of information.

Users are constantly searching for information and services that they can easily access at any time and in the shortest time possible. Marija, thanks to great technological development, will be able to interact in real time and respond to any question and need of the tourist to obtain a high-level customer experience.

This project testifies to the futuristic vision of the country through the implementation of a solid digital strategy for the destination. Marija represents the perfect medium to talk about Maltese history and connect in a meaningful way with all those who come into contact with Malta.

The first Maltese virtual citizen was studied by the students of the Master’s degree in the Economics of Tourism at the Bocconi University of Milan, who conducted an analysis on the issue and proposed future marketing actions that will meet the need of a more digital and immediate communication.
