Jeremy Smith is an award-winning writer and strategist in sustainable tourism. In 2020, he co-founded Tourism Declares a Climate Emergency, a grassroots global initiative calling on tourism to work together on climate action, which won Regenerative Travel’s 2021 Initiative of the Year. He is co-author of the UNWTO-led Glasgow Declaration for Climate Action in Tourism, which launched at COP26 in Glasgow and is now the largest and most representative coalition for tourism climate action with over 700 signatories.
He is currently working with the Travel Foundation and with the UNWTO to ensure the implementation of the Glasgow Declaration’s commitments over the next decade. He also advises destinations and businesses in sustainable tourism and climate action strategy, gives regular keynotes, and writes articles and blogs on sustainable tourism issues.
He is the author of the books Transforming Travel – realising the potential of sustainable tourism and Clean Breaks – 500 New Ways to See the World. He co-founded Travindy, the first website dedicated to sustainable tourism news, and sits on the advisory boards of the Future of Tourism Coalition and Travalyst.
